1918 Spanish Flu Pandemic
The 1918 pandemic is the worst (through December 2005) flu pandemic ever recorded. It is estimated that beween 20 and 40 percent of the world population became ill and more than 20 million people died, approximately 500,000 people in the United States. The highest mortality rate was in adults between 20 and 50 years old.
